I really wanted to give this machine a fair shake since the other Michley sewing products here have an average rating by customers. This is *very* light in weight, easy to carry, and will fit in any universal sewing machine case with room for extra accessories. Aside from two metal bobbins, two small spools of thread (black and white), the accompanying loaded white spool and bobbin, an extra needle, a needle threader, and maybe a screwdriver--this machine comes with nothing else extra. By extra I mean stuff like extra pressing feet, seam ripper, and mini brush duster.

The good points of this machine is that it does have a drop in bobbin, you can drop the feed dogs, has a reverse stitch lever, free arm, option to use a hand switch to run the machine or use the foot pedal, and there are numerous stitches to enjoy. The button hole process is 4 step; completely manual. There is no buttonhole foot.

When using the bobbin winder, the machine needle bobs up and down while you are winding (the winding is slow in comparison to other machines). The machine itself is noisy to me. It wobbles while in use.

I tried to hem a pair of Carhart casual work pants, which were made of a thick cotton/polyester blend. On several tries I was unable to completely penetrate the fabric and the needle bent (didn't break, but arced). When I used the hand wheel to give it a 'start' before using the foot pedal--the needle went up and as soon as it came back down...it bent. I had considered changing the needle to a higher quality one but after 5 tries I gave up out of frustration and went to my Sears Janome. I pondered how it was possible for the sturdy folded test fabric with sample stitches that came with the machine actually happen.

In short, this is a machine I might consider recommending for children, or those that would be sewing light fabrics. Perhaps it was just my luck I may have had a defective machine but it seemed to run as it should just not for me or my expectations. I would be too embarrassed to give this to an adult with sewing experience.

This machine was a few dollars more than the 'Brother XL2600I Sew Advance Sew Affordable 25-Stitch Free-Arm Sewing Machine' which is also available on Amazon. I sent the Michley back, bought the Brother, and am much happier.
