It would have been nicer to get this machine in a 3 needle version at this price, and I can't figure out why this two stitch machine is priced so high, even here. In retail stores nearby, they sell the Elna, which is made by Janome, in this two stitch version for about twice this much, which is even more outrageous. However, It is what is needed in attaching elastic waistbands to the tops of swimwear and activewear. I haven't tried the chain stitch yet, and am hoping I can use that for decorative purposes someday.
So far, it works great. My only complain is the free arm, which is basically useless because it isn't deep enough for the garment to reach the needles effectively. I found that I still had to turn the garment wrong side out, and stitch on the inside to hem or attach elastic. This machine offers a 5mm stitch width, but if one goes over the garment again on a second stitching row, one can either overlap or stitch closely to the previous line of stitches to create a wider 7 or 10mm stitch width for greater stability on elastic waist bands. Its a bit of a hassle to remove the work because one has to pull slack on the threads above the needles, and gently work the wheel to release the work if one doesn't stitch off of the fabric. Patience is a virtue. It runs smoothly, and has a nice fairly quiet feel and sound. It is easy to thread, with a very simple manual. It truly is better than a regular sewing machine, like a serger is, on stretch and interlock knits. There is no substitute for this fine duo stitcher. The three needle would have been nicer, but this will work for the price.
