Vintaj Jewelry Technique Book
I give this book two stars for a giving me a couple neat ideas but it is more like a sample of a book then a usual how-to jewelry book. The book concentrates on the focal pieces in a jewelry project but does not give instructions on how to make the whole piece. It is fine if you can eyeball something and get a general idea of a piece but not really for a beginner which is unfortunate because brass is a nice price point to practice in. More importantly, I thought I was buying this book as a companion to the Bigkick by Vintaj and all the cool new embossing and etching you can do with it. No, this is not the case. Alas, the illustrations are very pretty and if you like working with brass and filigree it really does give a beginner some nice ideas on what to do...that is if you are loaded with a bunch of tools on hand which a beginner really does not have at their disposal. I have been making jewelry as a hobby for a few years now so I have plenty of the nifty tools...That being said, there is a project where a UV light comes into play, really? There are plenty of free tutorials on-line that give more information than this book provides. Save your money and buy their product to make fun stuff instead.
