I have a Janome DC2010 and I purchased this gathering foot to help me make garments with ruffles and gathers.
Unlike the feet that came with my machine, this one is not exactly a "snap on" foot. I could slide it under the presser thing but I couldn't snap it on. The foot fits over the front and back in a weird way, and there just isn't enough room to maneuver it. I had to remove the screw, take off the little thing that holds the foot (I don't remember what it's called), snap the foot onto it, then put it back in place. It's annoying, but I can live with it.
Once it's on, the foot is very easy to use to make neat little ruffles and gathers. However, it is difficult (if not impossible) to get exactly what you need. For example, I needed to gather a skirt and then sew it to a bodice. Once this foot gathers up the fabric, it locks it in place. I could not stretch out and adjust the gathers to fit the bodice...so there went my reason for buying this foot! When I need to gather a skirt, I have to go back to the old method of making loose stitches and pulling the bobbin thread. The same goes for making ruffles for shirts, sleeves, etc. The foot will happily gather up your fabric, but forget about making that fabric fit into a specific area since you can't adjust the length. You'd have to use a piece much longer than you need, ruffle/gather it up (after test running it with different tensions to make sure you get the right gathers you want), then cut off the excess, which seems wasteful and compared to cutting what you need, using some long stitches, and then pulling the bobbin thread.
Oh, and forget about gathering two layers of fabric together (e.g. a lined gathered skirt or a folded strip of fabric). I couldn't get that to work. The foot only seems to work on one layer.
