This crunched up looking shank is for Low Shank machines to attach snap on feet with the smaller width snap bar (about as wide as a #2 pencil lead before sharpening). This should work well with a Singer Featherweight sewing machine, which is low shank and the narrow type snap on feet.
If your attachment foot has the wider space, you need the other shank attachment:
