I'm pretty convinced that the right tool for the job can simplify anything. This bias tape foot is easy to use and effective. It is for simple fabrics and for making narrower tapes. If you are looking for making a blanket width bias tape you will need to either find a different tool or take the time to do it by hand because this tool will not do anything that wide. This has elevated my sewing quite a bit. It has helped me get an even stitch on bias tape edges in a way that all my practice before hasn't.

I just recently purchased this item from Photoland NY. I do most of my own printing as a photographer so I need to trim lots of photographs. When I used this trimmer on my photographs, it leaves a very distinct line going across the top of the photograph. This is caused by the pressure of the plastic ruler holding the photograph when you use the roller to trim the photograph. I believe in total quality products and having a line going across my photographs is unacceptable. Therefore, I do not recommend this product if you plan to use it to trim photographs. If you plan to use for paper trimming then you may have a winner. I didn't use it for that purpose so I can't totally support this trimmer. My search is on again for a high quality trimmer that doesn't leave markings on my professional quality photographs.
By the way, I was using Epson Premium Luster photo paper. Didn't try glossy but my guess is the outcome would be the same or worse.
Fixit Sculpt 1 Lb. Epoxy Clay
We bought the Fixit Sculpt to repair a toilet and for sculpting changes to action figures. It worked great for both. The toilet, part of an upstairs bath remodeling project, had an uneven base. The Fix-it Sculpt was applied, allowed to dry, and then sanded smooth and installed. That was several weeks ago and there hasn't been any leaks. My son customizes action figures and the Fixit Sculpt allows him to make the figures more realistic. It's a great product and we received it much quicker than we thought we would. We will definitly purchase it again.
Artist's Anatomy Male Anatomical Model 2.0 Reference Tool
I'm a 3d artist and I've been using this model as reference for the last year. THe model is good with nice resistant material. It's a shame that it's just the first skin sub-layer, would have been nice to have half bones and half muscles structure. I find this a good way to get around the male anatomy, and I strongly recommend it for the price that it is, but if you can invest more money, I would probably buy a bigger one with more details.

I had to play around with the machine more than I used it, read the reviews here and on JoAnns' site and decided there was a better Serger out there.
Bought a Brother from Amazon, JoAnn only sold Singer.
Now, in defense of the Singer serger machine, it has a much heavier material cutter, less oiling and a heavier steel shaft, collar combination, than the Brother.
Also, when the Singer was serging it did an extremely good job of overlocking, better than the Brother, in my opinion.
After I became used to the Singer form of threading it wasn't as bad as most of the reviews made it sound.

This is a great device for the money. There has been some comments about the lack of finish in obscure parts of the table. In fact they 'go away' when one gets and installs an acrylic form fitted insert. Such (insert)is almost obligatory for best function like sewing ( just a fer instance ).
This sewing table is very well built, for the money. While not many favor particle board it can be lived with if one realizes that it is not to be danced upon. The steel tubular frame is well executed and most sufficient to provide robust support and give long life. The height adjusting insert is clever enough,
it may seem basic but in fact is very functional and permits both fine and gross adjustments.
The next step in the sewing machine table hierarchy was a bit shocking to me. I did not find a middle ground and after looking I ran over and patted Ol' Gidget2 and told it how wonderful it was.
For 180 dollars I found no flaws. There are other Gidget models for less money and if you have a sewing machine with a foot print not large than the Brother PQ 1500 or the Juki TL series 'class' they will be even better as they will fit so close ( their insert/opening being considerably smaller ) you could successful avoid the 50 dollars + S&H for a fitted acrylic insert.

After having my first microwave for about 18 years, it finally died and I did a lot of research before deciding to buy this Panasonic. Having Amazon gift certificates, free shipping and a $25 kitchen and housewares discount influenced my decision and I have to say it was a great buy. I'm very pleased with the evenness with which it cooks and defrosts.
I upgraded from a mid-size 650-watt oven to this full-size 1250-watt oven. I have to remind myself sometimes that everything needs less time to cook. However, there are a lot of pre-programmed features in this unit that make it easier. For example, there is a sensor cook button that selects the time and power level for different kinds of foods depending on how many times you tap the button. Types of food include baked potatoes, frozen pizza, frozen entrees, fresh vegetables, frozen vegetables and omelettes. I made a baked potato last night that was cooked perfectly. There is also a separate popcorn button (you can select from 3 different bag sizes) that also worked perfectly. A More/Less button lets you add or subtract time to the sensor and popcorn settings.
There are a number of different functions you can select or turn on and off. Some of the functions include language (English, French or Spanish), a choice of pounds or kilos, child lock, reminder beep (I turned that off because unlike my old oven which beeped every minute, this one beeps every 15 seconds which was annoying) and menu action which when turned on guides you through each step of cooking. There is also a demo mode which is meant for retail displays but you can see how everything works without actually cooking anything.
Some other useful features are delayed start where you can use the timer to set the oven to start cooking at a later time and a keep warm setting if you won't be taking your food out of the oven immediately. A Quick Min button lets you select 1-9 minutes simply by tapping the button the appropriate number of times.
If you purchase this, I would suggest going through the owner's manual a couple of times. I went through it once before I used the oven. A couple of days later I went through it again and discovered that I had overlooked some shortcuts.
The only down side for me with this oven is losing some more counter space in a small kitchen. Keep that in mind if you don't already have a full-size oven.
UPDATE: It is now 2010 and I realized I have been using this oven for 3 1/2 years and I still love it! I do a lot of actual cooking in it too, not just reheating, popcorn, etc.

After using my single action airbrush, this took some getting used to. Adjusting the air and the paint at the same time has advantages over the single action. Also, having the paint container on the top allows for faster filling than on the bottom. I am just starting to learn how to do detail work but this airbrush will certainly do it. I tried my friend's $159 Badger airbrush and, while it is nice, does not do anything more than this one that I can tell.

I am an ROTC cadet who has to do weekend training on a pretty regular basis in a climate that is extremely humid and wet. Janome Serger 3434D Serger Overlock
I bought this to replace my Bernina model serger when it was no longer useable. I do not sew as much as I used to but I still wanted a serger for the projects I make. I decided to buy a less expensive machine and hoped that it would be sufficient. After using it for almost a year, I'm very satisfied with the quality of the machine. In many ways it is very similar to my old Bernina serger. However, one of the 4 needles is extremely difficult to thread. The directions with the machine indicate that you should tie subsequent threads onto the ends of the previous thread and that is actually the only reasonable way to rethread the machine. I made the mistake of thinking I could re-thread it as I had done with my Bernina and I spent a very long and frustrating time trying to thread this machine. That, however, is my only complaint with the machine. As long as you thread the machine by tying the new thread onto the old; you will not have this same problem. The machine is a bit louder and definitely not as finely made as the Bernina, but for the price, it's a very nice, useable serger.
Magic Sculpt 1 Lb. Epoxy Clay - Natural
I've been working with Magic Sculpt for a few years now, it is wonderful stuff. Here's a few tips to make your experience with it more rewarding.
0. Wet your finger in water to smoothe it, you don't need to use alchohol. If you use wax carving tools, wet the tip first so the epoxy doesn't stick to it. (I hope this stuff really is non-toxic, as I lick my tools and smooth my work with a finger I've licked.) I also sometimes smooth small areas with a wetted tool.
1. Use waxed paper to sculpt on, it will not stick to it. If the wax paper moves around too much, tape it to the table.
2. If you get interrupted and don't have time to finish your work before the epoxy is going to set up, throw it in the freezer. It will last about a day in there, and you'll be able to pull it out, warm it up a bit, and continue working. Two days is too long.
3. Right after you mix it, it may be very warm and too soft to sculpt easily. Pop it in the fridge for 5 or 10 minutes to cool it off, it will firm up nicely. Any time it gets too warm & soft in the first hour, chill it again. This has the added bonus of extending your working time a bit.
4. You can add very tiny and thin pieces to your work, but if you're applying to an already cured piece, scratch the surface in a cross-hatch pattern where you're going to add fresh epoxy, this will greatly improve the strength of the bond.
5. If you're sculpting miniatures, go slow. Do one detail at a time and let it cure. If you get too ambitious, you'll mangle the area you just worked on while you're focusing on another area. Work on several pieces at a time, add one or two details to each, then let them cure.
6. The hardener starts getting a yellow, kinda crusty coat to it after a few months in the container. Don't fret, just remove it from the container and knead it liberally like bread dough. Keep kneading it until the yellow has blended back into the mass and it is once again a uniform grey. Then put it back in the container.
7. Print these tips out and leave 'em with your Magic Sculpt.
