I just recently purchased this item from Photoland NY. I do most of my own printing as a photographer so I need to trim lots of photographs. When I used this trimmer on my photographs, it leaves a very distinct line going across the top of the photograph. This is caused by the pressure of the plastic ruler holding the photograph when you use the roller to trim the photograph. I believe in total quality products and having a line going across my photographs is unacceptable. Therefore, I do not recommend this product if you plan to use it to trim photographs. If you plan to use for paper trimming then you may have a winner. I didn't use it for that purpose so I can't totally support this trimmer. My search is on again for a high quality trimmer that doesn't leave markings on my professional quality photographs.

By the way, I was using Epson Premium Luster photo paper. Didn't try glossy but my guess is the outcome would be the same or worse.

I have had my Janome 11k for 4 years and beyond regular servicing, it has not been out of my sight. Sometimes I run it for 8 hours a day and still no problems. It is easy to use, has a large computerized screen, excellent lighting, and a variety of hoops. Because Janome uses a robotic arm on the back side, to move the hoop as you embroider, you don't have a massive embroidery unit to the side. This also makes threading it easier. Bobbins can be wound as you sew. It's very easy to switch from embroidery mode to regular sewing and, wow!, does it have power! The machine has many built-in stitches for regular sewing, too. Designs can be transferred to the machine from your computer directly or by USB stick or memory card (like a camera's), and there are built-in designs, as well. Designs can be edited on the machine. The only drawback I have encountered is the size of the largest hoop. Some of the other machines have larger hoops. Really, I just can't say enough good stuff about this embroidery machine. It's tough and fast and dependable, and sews smoothly, without tension problems or skipped/mangled stitches. Less time with the technician means more time for fun and more money to buy fabric and thread!

This works just like the expensive one at work. I'm using it to cut large inkjet paper sheets into smaller sizes for printing. I want exactly sized sheets and this works perfectly. The markings are accurate and the slider allows me to consistently replicate even and square cuts. The light weight plastic is really a bonus. I'm sure its less durable for heavier uses, but for me its easier to store and doesn't affect its usability.

I bought this generic hoop to work in my new Brother PE770. It was exactly what I needed, and loved that I didn't have to buy the product from Brother and hence save some money. Great find, and easy to use! Comes with 2 color grids that are very useful!

These are the best molds you will ever find if you do polymer clay. I think I own all of them and I use them constantly to make pendants and jewelry pieces. I expecially love this mold because of the details in the cross. When you put the clay in it doesn't stick to the mold and comes out perfect.

The people that own this company are great to deal with and stand behind their products 100%.

I have to say this is no where near the paper you used to have to buy for thermal printers. I absolutely love my new Brother fax machine and this paper. No wonder it is called "Thermal Plus." It feels and prints like paper. The Brother fax machine I bought is simple, easy to use, and works every time!

Felt some angst that I couldn't afford a Rotatrim, but this has turned out to be perfect for my needs (mainly trimming out photos, both traditionally printed and on heavier fine art inkjet papers). This is not like the lightweight plastic-y trimmers you may have seen in craft stores, but rather a solid machine clearly designed for heavier use.

Operation is simple and reliable with no wiggle or blade skewing. Overall device is heavy enough that the 4 rubber pads on the bottom keep it in place while you work. Size guides in addition to the gridlines printed on the cutting board are helpful. The removable magnetic holding bar is powerful and will hold your artwork exactly where you put it, so best to position correctly first rather than expecting to be able to make small adjustments with the bar down. Haven't had to replace a blade yet, but seems easy enough when the time comes.

All in all a great, heavy-duty tool at a fraction of the price of the Rotatrims.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Scotch is the brand I usually buy when looking for tapes. I have bought the two sided tapes for years now, for both business and personal needs. The early lesson I learned was to make doubly sure that you mount to a surface where you won't want to remove the item from later. If you mount a picture to a painted wall, for example, and then remove it the paint will most likely comme off with the tape. This tape here is clearly called "Permanent" for good reason.

it took me a little while to figure out how to use the sock hoop with my futura seq-s6000 machine; turns out it works better with the smaller hoop than the larger one. The scissors are a great value and the thread was great quality. Would order again from this seller.

Not much to say about a pack of bobbins. I bought a new sewing machine for myself as a Christmas present, and it came with two bobbins, and I needed more. They came, are as described, and they will do the job as intended. It's good to have more than the two the machine came with, so that you can keep a few filled with standard thread colors and have extras to use with other colors as needed.

I bought this for my wife and I, as we both own businesses and we needed something to occasionally cut paper for gift certificates and marketing materials. We use this in a light duty kind of way, and for that it works PERFECTLY.

It was very fairly priced, and feels to be better crafted then more expensive units we priced in stores. Its very high quality, sturdy, and cuts like a laser. It does not feel cheap whatsoever. I believe it will last us indefinitely.

I recommend this product if your looking for an affordable, quality, light to medium duty paper cutter. I honestly don't think you'll find a better product for less money.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention it is made by Swingline, which makes some great products. I didnt realize this until I opened it, and I'm very please it is!

UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2012

***************************

I wrote my original review on this product in December 2010. I've now owned this cutter for a total of 1 year, 9 months.

It still cuts and looks as good as the day we received it. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and the price I paid. If you're looking for a quality, sharp, accurate paper trimmer; this unit is definately highly recommend by me.

I'm a very pleased, very impressed, and very satisfied customer.

Thanks Swingline. We appreciate quality products at fair prices. Please keep it up and never give up on quality.

Janome 8050 Sewing Machine

Janome 8050 Sewing Machine

To start with, I LOVE this little Janome! I purchased it new from Hancocks a couple of weeks ago and everything is checking out 100%. I bought the 8050 specifically for the speed control and on/off button which I knew would have a learning curve :o) You have to pay several hundred more dollars to get a standard machine with these features. It's full size, the same length and height as my older MC3000 but a good 5-6# lighter. There is an extension table made specifically for this model I would highly recommend if you work with large items. I've been through the manual several times and it's very well written, clear instructions and diagrams cover everything there is to know. I couldn't find anything that had been left out.

I started out by making a sampler of all the stitches to keep for reference, and they all stitched out fine including perfect buttonholes. I have used it to do block piecing, and free-motion stitching on the border of a quilt. I used the regular Janome darning foot and it worked great. I'm doing my best-ever freemotion lettering since I can go at a slow consistent speed which translates to consistent stitches in the text.

You will need to play around with the speed control and practice a lot to see what speed fits you best since you have to be 'quick on the draw' to stop it in the right spot. Any time you want to go super slow without changing the speed dial just keep the button pressed in. When you get near the end of a seam, you can really slow it down by holding the button in until you are ready to stop, then release it, and it will stop. You can start off super-slow too, by holding the button in until you are ready to go fast, then release the button and off you go. This gives much more control over the stitches similar to using the pedal.

There's been some concern over the plastic foot holder. You do NOT have to buy a metal snap-on foot holder to use other basic Janome feet, they are interchangeable for the most part. My other Janome feet slide on the plastic holder exactly like what comes with the machine, the feet that came with the 8050 snap on the metal holder and can be used on other machines. Apparently Janome did this solid 1-piece plastic holder that standard feet can slide on/off as a small cost-cutting measure, to where they could offer this amazing value without compromising their quality. I can't see it ever breaking to where it would have to be replaced, it's not cheap plastic. I did discover 3 of my Janome specialty feet that won't fit on the plastic slide-on foot holder that comes with the 8050. Most basic Janome feet work just fine. But the ones with attachment brads on the back the extra metal partially blocking the slot is in the way of the plastic holder. #1 is the 1/4" quilting foot with metal guide on the side marked "O". The guide is attached with two rivets on the back that extend over toward the middle and block the plastic from seating properly. So if you want to use this foot you will need to purchase the metal snap-on holder. Make sure you get genuine Janome from a dealer, beware of the cheap imitations on ebay as the feet will wobble and the release button is smaller and hard to push. Ask me how I know I thought I WAS buying Janome. Another that won't slide on the plastic is blind hem foot "G" that has a metal guide placed in the center of the toes, attached the same way in the back with brads except on the opposite side. The last one is zigzag foot "A" that has a screw on the side. The screw blocks the path for the plastic foot to slide on. There are other variations of Janome A which don't have the screw (I have two from older machines that fit the 8050).

If you go to the Janome website and look under accessories, you can find these three feet O, G and A, and see what I'm talking about extra metal on the back that covers part of the slot.

I won't ever buy anything but a Janome after reading a zillion reviews on about every brand/model out there and using them for the last 10 years. This is my 6th purchase, counting one for my niece to learn to sew on. Two blew away in a tornado and were replaced with two new ones just like them, never a minute's trouble from any of them. In fact one was rescued from the rubble and cleaned up, has a few scratches but still runs like new. Shows how tough even the computer models are. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with ANY Janome. :o)
