The clay is very soft and easy to work with, and it holds its shape well. However, I feel the picture is a bit misleading I bought the "naturals" type, and what I received was definitely not what was shown in the picture. My box has red, green, orange, black, and white, and the rest are various shades of brown and gray. Not really what I was hoping for, (having at least the primary colors would have been nice) but I suspect the "bright ideas" version might be better. Overall, still probably worth a purchase, just make sure you know what you're getting.

Bobbin Case 51045 - Singer

It's a singer bobbin case, it fits, it does the job it's designed to do. I can say it's the second one I've bought and it's actually a better quality than the website Singer recommends purchasing from. Can't figure out why their parts for this machine are all knockoffs now either.

This concentrated paint tempera is great for marking a running trail while still being biodegradable. I mixed mine ith flour to quite a bit, but the color still stood out well. I'm sure it would be good for painting also.

I bought these for spent casings from the funeral at my father-in-laws 21-gun salute. I put casings in each pouch and gave them to the grandchildren as a keepsake. The pouches are well-made and I feel I definitely got my money's worth.

I don't like this assortment at all. Most of the beads are large, round and square, and light purple. There is no flower-like beads. They are not suitable for jewelry. I usually like Jesse James beads but those are a non-no.

First of all these are NOT SINGER BOBBINS. If you want REAL SINGER bobbins, go here. Or go to a craft store.
http://www.amazon.com/Singer-15-J-Bobbins-Transparent-3-Pack/dp/B002H8Y3B0/ref=cm_cr-mr-title
These bobbins came in a tiny plastic bag. Generically packaged, no name on the packaging whatsoever. It is very clear that they are obviously OLD, USED and REPACKAGED. They are definitely NOT NEW. They have scratches all over them and appear YELLOWED AND MIS-SHAPEN as well. I would not order these if you want new, unused, Singer bobbins, because I can GUARANTEE you these are NOT SINGER bobbins.
I did order this style (below) and they came in a SINGER package, NEW and were definitely NOT curved in appearance, yellowed and scratched. If you want NEW REAL SINGER bobbins, buy these more expensive yes, but in the long run, you may save your sewing machine from a breakdown.

My mother-in-law bought this machine for my 7-year-old daughter. We wanted a smaller machine for her to learn on, but all the 'toy' machines are such awful junk we went for this one. I'm so glad we did! I'm an avid seamstress and have an old-school pfaff, but I have to admit I've been stealing her machine more and more frequentlym especially when I go out to sew!
Pros:
It's lightweight, making it perfect for travelling, for pulling out for a quick repair, and for young learners.
It's super easy to use. My daughter learned quickly how to sew with it and works on her own now.
It's SO cute. Adorable. Why can they make full sized machines this darling?
It's very good quality and sews like a dream. The sound is uniform and smooth and the stitch quality is excellent. No complaints from us and we've had it over a year!
Cons:
This doesn't do 'fancy' stuff. If you want a machine with fancy stitch capabilities and plan on becoming a professional seamstress, this could not be your only machine. But I still think this is an excellent second machine for an expert seamstress.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to anyone.
As for the review that said it only has one speed, I haven't found this to be any different from any other machine I've used. If you push the pedal in all the way, it goes fast. Just a light push results in a slow speed.

I have an Epson 960 Photo Printer. I have tried various Epson photo papers with the printer and this is by far the best. The premium glossy paper was nice but I could see some bands through the image that were barely percepible even when the printer was new. With the Premium Luster paper the ink lays down beautifully and perfectly and the image has what I can only describe in words as a rich feel to it. Paper selection is very personal but if you have not tried this paper you owe it to yourself to run some of it through your printer. There's a good chance you'll be back for more.

This looked like fun so I bought it on a whim. I just tried it out. It came as 2 pieces but just needed to be snapped together. I tried it on lightweight muslin doubled up for a tiny bit of stability and it worked great. The stitches on the normal zigzag lined up perfectly. On the other stitches my machine has, they were close to perfect. If I had simply adjusted my stitch length they would have matched too. This will make for some more personalized projects. Love it.

Janome Sewing Machine Power Cord
Posted by

on Wednesday, August 6, 2014
I purchased this cord as I bought my MC11000 in Australia and have now returned to the US and needed the 110V US cord. While the pins in the machine line up to accept the plug, my machine has a notched area and this cord does not have the notches. My husband "chisled" grooves out of the cord which works, but is not ideal. The machine is working fine...but, the cord is not universal (maybe just national!) On a side note, shipping was fast!

Relatively inexpensive considering all the machines it can attach to. I use a very old model Singer and it screws on just fine. The guide doesn't have measurements on it and is just held in place by friction, so a rough jostle can slip it out of position. I might use a sharpie marker to mark the guide for different parallel widths.

Brother XL-5130 Sewing Machine

This was my first sewing machine (that wasn't borrowed) and it's lasted more than eight years with almost no trouble. The light bulb hasn't even burned out yet! It's done everything I've asked of it, from sewing jeans, to corsets, to Victorian ballgowns. It has plenty of stitch variations, especially for a basic, starter machine.
As I recall, it came with six presser feet: regular Zig-Zag foot, 1/4" Quilting Foot, Zipper Foot, Button Foot, Automatic Buttonhole Foot, and one that isn't in the manual, but which I suspect is an Invisible Zipper Foot. It also came with a darning plate, an extra thread spindle, and a screwdriver.
I love how easy it is to use! Everything about it is simple and straightforward.
The downside: the motor is a bit touchy. If you don't press on the foot pedal hard enough, the motor will stall out and whine without going anywhere. But if you press too hard, it takes off sewing before you're ready. For this reason, my beginner students are a bit intimidated by it. They tend to err on the side of caution, which means they don't press hard enough on the foot pedal, and so they're constantly revving the motor without actually stitching. But once you're accustomed to the machine, you learn exactly how hard to hit the pedal to get it going, and then it's no trouble. Just takes getting used to.
Occasionally, with really thick fabrics, I have to hand crank it to get the needle through, like when sewing through too many layers of denim, but just at the cross-over seams. For regular seams, it does just fine, even with thicker fabrics like denim and corduroy.
Oh, and one time the entire needle assembly mechanism just fell off---plop! Right onto the corset I was sewing. Left a grease smear that I was quite unhappy about. Turns out, it requires the world's smallest Allen wrench, about the size of a toothpick. Once I had that, I was able to reattach the mechanism and everything was fine.
Overall, the good far outweighs the bad in this machine. It's so easy to use, you hardly need the manual (which is good, because the manual is kind of worthless). Just keep it maintained (regular oiling and cleaning) and it should serve you well for many years!
Update (May 2012): After nine and a half years of impeccable sewing, my machine started skipping stitches badly. I suspect the timing needs adjustment--a simple enough procedure, but one that will cost more than the machine is worth. I elected to retire my Brother XL-5130 and buy a new sewing machine. It saddens me, because we've been through a lot together . . . but perhaps someday I can get the timing fixed and keep it as a spare sewing machine.
