I have been looking for a really sharp pair of scissors for cutting braided fishing line unsuccessfully,so I settled for these from Rapala.I figured with a name like Rapala, that the scissors would be first quality. Unfortunately, as so many others I have tried. They are merely adequate. I would not mind paying more money if I could find a good sharp pair for cutting braided fishing line. I guess these will have to do until I find something else.

These were purchased to hold a key fob to an id badge for EMS personnel. Trust me when I say they are put through the test of durability on a daily basis. No problems so far! None have even had to be replaced. Great product.

I was a bit surprised that the "book" is only a couple pages and a painting kit. Not cool. I think it should be advertised as a kit. The few pages that are there are fine, really good actually, but it definitely seemed like too little.

Invisible English Plate Hanger Disc--2 Inch (For Plates 4 to 6

Invisible English Plate Hanger Disc--2 Inch
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

These discs are a thin material and have dried glue on the back. They come with instructions on how to attach them to the plate. Hopefully I followed them well! To get the glue working I got the disc wet and work up the glue with my fingers. I then wait a couple of minutes before attaching the disc to my plate. The next day I hung the plate up! It works. My plates have been on the wall for over a week now no problems.

I didn't expect the disc to involve actual work to put it on, but less than 10 minutes of your time for a plate to hang on your wall forever seems like a good time investment. I also found it a little difficult to get the hook level.

But I'm impressed. I would order these again.

EDIT: 04/2013

Over 3 years later and my plates are still hanging!

I have had my Janome 11k for 4 years and beyond regular servicing, it has not been out of my sight. Sometimes I run it for 8 hours a day and still no problems. It is easy to use, has a large computerized screen, excellent lighting, and a variety of hoops. Because Janome uses a robotic arm on the back side, to move the hoop as you embroider, you don't have a massive embroidery unit to the side. This also makes threading it easier. Bobbins can be wound as you sew. It's very easy to switch from embroidery mode to regular sewing and, wow!, does it have power! The machine has many built-in stitches for regular sewing, too. Designs can be transferred to the machine from your computer directly or by USB stick or memory card (like a camera's), and there are built-in designs, as well. Designs can be edited on the machine. The only drawback I have encountered is the size of the largest hoop. Some of the other machines have larger hoops. Really, I just can't say enough good stuff about this embroidery machine. It's tough and fast and dependable, and sews smoothly, without tension problems or skipped/mangled stitches. Less time with the technician means more time for fun and more money to buy fabric and thread!

Euro-Pro Universal Sewing Machine Carrying Case

Euro-Pro Universal Sewing Machine Carrying Case
Customer Ratings: 2.5 stars

I bought this case from the Target store to take my machine to and from sewing class. I think the box said "comfort grip handle" or something like that ("comfort" was in there somewhere). I think they made up the box on opposite day or something, because my hands were pink after carrying it for a short time. It's so cheaply made very thin and unfinished. It's also very large for most machines. I lined mine with foam so it would not clunk around (I have a Brother model which ever is the bestselling one on Amazon.) This machine is fine for storage purposes, but if you'll be doing a lot of transporting, I highly advise looking into something else. That's a lot of ranting for a sewing case!!

This is my fifth serger and, so far, my favorite. For the last five years I have mostly sewn on a Baby lock Imagine, and then a Baby Lock Evolve. These are excellent, very easy to use sergers, but very expensive. In addition, I found the Evolve, the one I used the most, had trouble going over thick seams. When the Evolve was getting serviced earlier this year I bought a vintage Juki (MO-104) and loved it but decided I needed a more modern one with differential feed and a rolled hem.

This Juki has it all. It is very stable--never moves around when you're serging--has a wonderful knife set-up that cuts through anything smoothly, and has a beautiful rolled hem, either two or three thread. It doesn't have the jet air threading of the Baby Locks, but threads easily. Everything is color-coded. The tensions are also very easy to set. I haven't had any problem with them at all.

I would advise you also to order a good, basic serger book because the instruction book with this Juki doesn't explain how to make the variety of stitches that are possible with it. With most of them you just have to tweak the tensions or stitch length or width, all easy to do on this machine. The electronic, high end machines (that go for a thousand dollars or more) will either make these adjustments automatically, or tell you how to do them on the screen, but I find a good serger book works just as well, and is much, much cheaper.

Do be aware that this machine does not have a coverstitch, or coverhem, as it is sometimes called. It's the two or three thread stitch used to hem knits. To get this stitch you need to buy an expensive, high-end combo serger, or a separate coverstitch machine. I like having a regular serger, this one in particular, and a separate coverstitch machine, like the Janome CP 1000.

This is shipped from Ken's Sewing Center, a store with an excellent reputation in the sewing community. Mine arrived quickly in perfect shape, but had there been a problem I know Ken's would have taken care of it.

Really, this serger is an amazing deal. Juki is an excellent brand; I understand they make the Bernina sergers as well.

Update: When I reviewed this serger it was $399.00 and was shipped by Ken's Sewing Center. I see now that the price and vendor have been changed. It is still an excellent serger but not quite as good a deal now.

Excellent quality. Super value for money. When compared with genuine machine manufacturer parts, Distinctive parts are almost there. When I say almost, they haven't caused me any trouble, but the quality we get for the price is superb.

It does the job perfectly.

The description on these unfortunately cut off before it listed the "PARTS" part of the description when ordering. So needless to say I was a bit surprised when they arrived with NO POSTS. They also were not even attached tiers. I had to literally attach each level/tietier of both earings, as they were just hanging by a open loop, barely. And there's actually NO beads on them either :(

This dress form is so poorly engineered that the metal and plastic base of it, which stands on the floor, cannot be correctly assembled. The parts just don't fit together, as the sizes of parts that are supposed to join each other don't match-up. The size-adjusting mechanisms of the dress form 'body' are flimsy plastic and are not strong enough to withstand being adjusted many-multiple times. As the size of the dress form 'body' expands when it is being adjusted, the tension on the flimsy plastic adjustment mechanisms increases rapidly to a point where it cannot maintain the desired setting, and it spontaneously springs-back to a smaller size. It's impossible to keep it at the desired large size. The included instruction sheet is woefully inadequate in every way. My unit arrived without any adjustment tool a little knob that must be used in order to adjust the size of the dress form 'body.' I contacted the factory, and after too many e-mails, one was sent to me in the U.S. mail. Their e-mails were polite and their customer service is good. But it would have been so much better if the necessary tool had actually been included in the box! Since there was no packing slip, or list of parts included, of course I had to figure out for myself what was missing. Do yourself a favor and seek a better quality dress form than this one.

I have a Badger 105 airbrush along with a couple of Badger 150s. They need supplies regularly to keep them going. Buying the needles, tips and other expendables from Amazon is great because the Badger company is the one who supplies the parts quickly, at good price and with excellent customer service. Five Stars.

Fairy Doll Making Kit

It all looks innocent enough when the gift is unwrapped and your daughter's eyes glow as you explain she will make her own fairy princess doll.

Then you begin . . .

The 52-step instructions seem thorough enough and you are warned to read the entire booklet through before you begin. I did. The moderately well-written instructions are complete with one-inch photographs that appear to be helpful.

Now you begin . . .

The hair is kinda fun. And easy.

The top of the dress is less fun, and it's difficult to really figure out the shape in which it should be cut. And I still don't know why I had to cut a "V" out of one side. But I did.

Now attach the three parts of the skirt and wrap the belt/sash around it. The double-sided tape is particularly amusing.

That was fun. Right? Don't worry! You'll likely get a chance to do it all again when it starts to simply fall apart in your hands. And probably a third and fourth time, too. Or you can save some time now, on the first pass, and simply glue the skirts to the doll.

Next there is reference to doll's "shoulders," but, sadly the doll has no shoulders. You need the shoulders because that's where you are going to apply the flowers that you cut up into little pieces and attach together. Save yourself some trouble and just attach the pink flower to one "shoulder" and the green flower to the other "shoulder."

Now glue the glitter to the wings with the glue, sponge, and template. Try not to breath in the dust from the glitter. Really, I'm serious.

Now cinch the wings together with the silver cord. Oops, try again. OK, it will work better the third time. See!?!?!?

Attach the wings. Pretty easy.

Use the face template to color the face.

Assemble and attach the wand.

Now you have a finished doll that looks just like the picture on the box. Right?!?!?

Perhaps I am being too harsh. Maybe the "educational" rating should be 5-stars, because your child will learn patience, a few new cuss words, and how to avoid wasting hard-earned money.

I purchased this machine for basic stitching with my daughter. We were so disappointed when we could not even get one simple hemline out of it! The stitches were sometimes pretty, and sometimes they wouldn't catch the bottom thread at all, and sometimes the needle got jammed. We tried it with different tensions, and different materials, but were never completely successful. The entire process was so aggravating that my daughter declared she'd rather sew by hand!! Next time, I will spend more for something that works.
