I guess I thought from the picture this would have a heavier resin board to it. It's actually pretty thin plastic with criss-crossing reinforcement underneath. I found it unacceptably light (i.e. you need to hold down the board side of it too keep it from tipping when you apply force to the blade).

Wound up returning it and springing for this more heavy duty one: Premier Heavy-Duty Green Board Wood Trimmer, Cut Up to 20 Sheets at One Time, Steel Blades, 12 Inches, Green (PREW12) (Note, despite the product description, this one is actually particle board rather than real wood... but still far better than flimsy plastic). This one also has a nice metal safety latch that engages automatically. The safety latch on this one was just a piece of plastic you have to flip off and on manually.

I could see someone wanting this if they were transporting it often (i.e. you didn't have enough desk space and were carrying from another room when you used it). But for me with it just sitting on my desk, I want something more substantial.

This was a gift for my daughter-in-law. She had placed it on her wish list, and though the reviews were poor, especially concerning the machine breaking before actually using it, I went ahead and purchased. She was very excited to receive it, but as she was threading the bobbin, getting the machine set up, a metal piece broke off and rendered the machine unusable. This was actual 'metal' breaking, not metal connected to plastic. Evidently the metal used in this machine is the lowest grade, i.e. the kind we see used in very cheap toys made overseas.

When they called to set up a return they were told they would have to pay a re-stocking fee. Incredible! They eventually worked it out and they paid for shipping back, but I'm still out the shipping to me.

So don't waste shipping to see if it might work for you. Yes the price is good, but you get what you pay for.

I bought these along with the Conair Hair Beader. I don't know if they are too small for the beader or not yet, because I gave this to my granddaughter for her birthday...tonight, but she was thrilled to death to have "Princess Beads" that Tinkerbell gave me to give to her for her hair. Find a special, "girly" clear container to put them in because they come in little tiny baggies, all separated by color. I just put them in a small, stoppered, decorative jar and all the girls at the party had to get a closer look. They are 2mm. beads, so small, but very beautiful.

This is a wonderful product for LIGHTWEIGHT sewing! I happen to use it on very sheer nylon for grooming smocks, so it converts my straight shanked Brother and Singer machines into sergers very easily. I know Singer has a heavier duty side cutter and plan to purchase it for future heavy weight sewing, but for now, this is the product that I will be using. You will need to read the instructions in order to get it to work the first time as I just expected it to go to work automatically. NOT! It's wonderful for the price for lightweight materials and I would recommend it for the hobby to advanced sewer who does not want to purchase a serger right away.

I purchased this drawing board, knowing Alvin is a good brand for drafting equipment. This board with it's supposed "parallel bar" is a piece of junk! Every time I slide the straightedge up or down the board I have to ensure it IS perpendicular to the edge of the board with a triangle. I have taken the whole assembly apart and put it back together but to no avail. I adjust and re-adjust the various dials and controls and it gets me nowhere FAST. What a waste of my time and money! This is a sham and Alvin and Amazon should pull the product and refund all customers immediately.

Shark by Euro-Pro Sewing Machine Remanufactured 998A

I'm glad I got this as a starter sewing machine, and for something so cheap it seems to be a decent machine. It's not some sort of miracle where you're getting a $300 machine for 15 bucks, but it will do basic sewing with nice strong stitches. But I encountered some obstacles that any other novices out there should probably know about. I had read that the accompanying instructions are terrible (and they are), so one thing I liked was that the machine was supposed to come pre-threaded. I figured I could see how it was threaded and then reverse-engineer how to do it myself. But it was terribly packaged -someone had stuck the original box into a much larger box with no packing foam or paper or anything to stabilize it, and the smaller box had come open, spilling pieces all over the place and wrecking the threading. The bobbin was off, the thread was broken and tangled, and if there was ever even a needle inserted into the machine, I couldn't find it. Fortunately there's an extra needle packaged with the accessories. It took me a long time with the idiotic instructions and Google to figure out how to set it all up properly, get it threaded, get the thread to stop tangling up under the pressure foot, and I've got it sewing but am still not 100% confident that I've managed to figure out every little bit of stuff like "Does this piece of thread go over or under this bit here?" If it had been better packaged and arrived in a shape that allowed me to figure out exactly how it should be set up, I would have been totally happy that I'd gotten what I paid for. This also would probably not be an issue for someone who knows their way around a sewing machine better than I do. But I'm now glad I didn't send it back, and I appear to have a tiny little basic sewing machine. It's so light that you can move it around easily, good for apartments where you're moving your projects on and off your table, and it makes perfectly nice stitches for very basic purposes. I wouldn't try something complicated with this, but it'll hem pants and make basic garments, and for things like that it's better and faster than hand sewing.

The whole thing is made cheaply. The magnets on the bottom are overkill and pop off easily. The clips are plastic and snap too easily. The guides are made from 16 gauge solid core ground wire. You could make this thing at home for less than five bucks. I expected something more sturdy and professional.

heavy duty electricians scissors, what more do you need to know? i use these to cut cable (cat5, cat6, 25 pair, etc) and they are working great. still as sharp as they were on day 1.

they are still going strong nearly a year and a half later. still very sharp, pretty much like they were on day 1. i would give a couple more stars but theyre already maxed out!

i made the mistake of cutting some stuff that was wrapped in tape and now they are sticky and hard to open every once in a while but i think a little rubbing alcohol or WD40 should take care of that problem.

I've had this unit for about 6 weeks and it worked well until a head broke today. I called the company thinking that 6 weeks was a little premature and they told me that the unit has a lifetime warranty on everything except the head and that the heads that cost $53.59 for a set of 3 should be replaced approximately every 100 punches. Had I known that I would not have purchased this unit. That is a very considerable addition to the cost of printing that was not disclosed anywhere pre-purchase. Furthermore, $53.59 is crazy, I was expecting them to say $6 or $7 for a set of 3. Yes when it's not broken it works fine, but they need to be more honest about the cost of operating this unit. Had it said anything about that in the description I'd give the unit a 5 but since they ignore it and pretend it isn't an issue they get a 2 and I really should give it a 1.

* Cuts cleanly (I've done up to 20 pages of cardstock)

* Does not cut straight a lot of the time.

It has a bar that clamps down on it to hold the paper and it seems to be held tightly. I measure the paper after clamping it down (because the clamp can move the paper just a bit) but even when the paper is still in the right place the cut can come out crooked.

* Ruler is off by 1/8" or so. This combined with the "not cutting in a straight line" means it's tough to get precise cuts. I called the company and they said the ruler isn't *supposed* to measure the distance to the cut. I think the service rep was uniformed or smokin' crack.

I've never had one of these rotary trimmers before so maybe they just aren't very precise.

This cutter cuts well (I've cut up to 20 pages of cardstock cleanly).

However, the measurement of the cut point seems off by just a bit, maybe 1/8" or so. It's noticeable when I'm cutting out postcards.

There also isn't a mark to show where you'll cut exactly.

I originally gave this 2 stars because I wasn't getting precise cuts with it. However, with some practice I'm getting cuts that are only off by 1/8" or so.

I've never used this sort cutter before so maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what

Darice 97910 16-Inch Storage Box Petroleum Blue

Very happy with this little box. It is very sturdy, main box is not only heavy gauge plastic but bottom corners are reinforced where you might bang the box against things. It is not "industrial strength" but for most home uses and crafts it is perfect, and being heavy plastic throughout will NOT rust. I would even recommend it for lighter weight "contractor" applications such as small specialty tools with small attachments. The lift out tray is made of much lighter weight plastic. The latches, both to main box and lid storage space are positive and work well. An additional nice feature is that both the handle and lid organizer fold flat and recessed into top. My only minor complaint is that the lid organizer compartments are fixed (molded into lid) and not adjustable or removable.

If this is right size for your application I recommend it.
