I'm a fan of most of the Vintaj product line and enjoy making customized jewelry from their extensive line of charms, filigree, and findings. They use a variety of beautiful metals in their components -natural brass, copper, pewter, and black art deco (with pewter interior). I particularly like the natural brass...it adds an earthy touch to jewelry. Vintaj natural brass is a solid brass made up of 85% copper and 15% zinc.

Vintaj has several size and style options for ear wires for making earrings. I prefer these smaller French Ear Wires, though, because they allow the design of your earring to begin closer to your ear rather than dropping it lower. You can still end up with finished earrings that have a significant "drop" to them...but the beads, filigree, crystals, etc. all start up closer to where the wire leaves your pierced ear.

So many interesting and beautiful pieces of jewelry can be made by using various components of the Vintaj product line. I've found a lot of finished pieces on the Vintaj website that serve as inspiration. There are also a number of YouTube videos on different techniques to be found if you need help with ideas.

My mother-in-law gave me this for Christmas. I have never owned a rotary cutter, and I am fairly new to sewing.

I love this!

I was having a lot of trouble cutting straight with scissors, and it seems to be less of a problem with this. The grip is a little small but comfortable.

I especially like that to access the blade you push and slide the button, not just slide.

I look forward to much use from this product!

I purchased one of these to store my seed beads. After a few uses, the plastic latches weren't staying closed. The lids are also not tight-sealing; beads spilled out when I dropped one of the rings. I like that the caddy has the central compartment where I can store wire and cutters, but wish that the compartments were better secured.

EK Cutterpede Tools, Scoring Blade Shuttle

I love my cutterpede, and it always works well for me. The scoring blade makes a really clean looking score on all types of paper. The only drawback to using this scoring blade is that it's a bit of a hassle to change it out and then change back to the regular blade when making cards.

First part of cutting table is marked in metric. Since 90% of what I need to cut is from 2" to 5" in size, I had to print out a new cutting guide in Excel making sure it was exactly to size. I then covered it with laminated covering and taped it in place. Other than that, it was excellent. I did not think I needed the laser but got it anyway. It really came in quite handy. Knife blade is very sharp and cuts card stock as if it was 20 pound paper.

Janome 350e Memory Craft Embroidery Machine

I've been using the 350E for several weeks now, and I LOVE it. It is my first experience with an embroidery machine, and was so easy to learn how to use. I have had a Janome Memory Craft sewing machine for many years now, and have always been pleased with it. So, I wasn't looking to buy a sewing/embroidery machine combination. After looking at many of the other models on the market, and deciding that I wanted an "embroidery only" machine, the Janome 350E won hands down. The quality of the stitching is great. And, it has features that are only offered on some of the more expensive models made by other companies. As mentioned before, it is very easy to use right out of the box. I purchased it from a local dealer, and was given a lesson right there in the shop. I was operating the machine on my own within about 10 minutes.

There are a few quirks that seem to be peculiar to the 350E. One issue is that, while the display screen is very easy to see and user friendly, the setting for it's clarity changes on it's own while I'm embroidering. I have to reset it's brightness/contrast several times in a sitting. The model in the showroom did the same thing and I was told that it's just the way it is. This certainly wasn't a deal breaker for me, but a little irritating that Janome has not been able to get this right.

The other quirk that I found is that the "low bobbin" warning doesn't always work. Again, I have read that this is another issue with the model, in general. Sometimes I get no warning until the bobbin totally runs out. Sometimes I get a brief message on the screen....if I happen to catch it while it is displayed. And, sometimes I get the audible beep along with the message. I'm going to speak with my dealer about this. But, again, I have read that this is a common issue.

Other than those two things, I am completely thrilled with this machine. And, these two issues are the only reason I gave the Janome 350E 4 stars. In every other aspect, I would give it a 10 star rating.

I've now used this machine for about six weeks, and find that I needed to downgrade my 4 star rating to a three star rating. My LED screen has failed. Luckily it is under warranty, and my dealer has ordered a replacement part. But, after being a Janome user for almost 17 years, I am really disappointed to have this issue in just these few weeks of ownership.

NEW DOWNGRADE TO MY REVIEW. It is now October, and I've had my 350E for 8 months. I got a new screen installed in my machine a few months ago. While it is better, it still fades in and out until the machine warms up. I'm not pleased at all with this, but it seems to be the way it is. AND, today, in the middle of sewing some Halloween designs, my machine totally locked up and is in error message mode. I understand it is probably a sensor problem, so back to the shop it goes. I am going to see if they will either give me a new replacement for this machine, or give me my money back. Two major problems in 8 months is totally unacceptable, especially since I hardly used the machine over the summer months. As I stated earlier, I am so disappointed in Janome.

I bought this machine yesterday. It was so easy to use that within minutes we had threaded it and started sewing. Indeed, I was quite happy until today (a day later) when the bobbin thread started bunching. Within minutes the machine stopped stitching completely!! (The needle thread just won't pick up the bobbin thread at all!!) I telephoned the store and they think it may need timing adjustments!!! Will be returning it in the morning for a complete refund. Am thinking of getting a Brother instead. I had paid more for the Singer brand but am thoroughly disappointed!

Singer 086742-P Ruffler Foot

This Ruffler Foot is a fantastic time-saver if you have a lot of ruffles to do. You get much more even ruffles than you would by hand-basting and you can a lot more ruffles in very little time. It takes a delicate hand and a little practice but, once you get the hang of it, you can start putting ruffles on everything in sight.

Of course, this foot is only going to work on certain machines so make sure that your machine is listed up there in the technical details and, even if it is, take a good look at the foot and ankle of your machine and compare it to the photo. This foot is for a low-shank machine with a rectangular ankle where the foot is attached by a screw-bolt. (If you have a Singer, the model number is usually printed underneath the technical specs which are usually near the power switch on the side.)

The instructions are very short and a little vague in places. It lists the names and purpose of parts of the foot but does not actually identify them on a diagram.

For the record, the "Adjusting Indicator" is the screw-bolt on the front (mine has an orange plastic cap on the end). When the bolt is almost all the way out, the ruffles come out close to a 1:2 ratio. When it is all the way in, the ruffles are about 1:8 ratio.

Super Important Tip: The foot is very big and bulky so it is easy to think the foot is down when it is not. If you don't put the foot down before you start ruffling, you'll just wind up with a big knot and a tangled bobbin so always make sure you definitely have the foot down.

Since the ratio control is difficult to keep precise, a ruffler foot may not always be the best choice if you have an exact length to match up and no extra cloth for a margin for error. However, if you are planning to put rows and rows of ruffles on something, you can use this foot to make one super-long ruffle and then cut it to fit after using the ruffler foot and it works a treat.
