This Alumilite casting resin is a great product with many possible uses and applications. We use it for casting parts for model trains, but the real limit on possible uses of this product is only your imagination.

It is a two part urethane resin, part A and part B come in two separate bottles. These are combined in equal parts, mixed and poured into molds. This type of urethane is used mostly with silicone molds, but other molds can be used as well. The most common products for making molds are Alumilite's Alumilite Quick-Set Mold Rubber Kit mold-making kit or Alumilite High Strength 3 RTV Mold Making Rubber 1 lb. HSIII RTV. Once parts A and B are combined, you have 90 seconds to mix and pour before the liquid starts hardening right before your eyes. The mixture heats up a bit but nothing that you can't hold in a plastic cup. The little heat is just a byproduct of a chemical reaction. In less then 5 minutes you can demold your casting and either paint or otherwise work it, i.e. machine it, polish it, cut it, etc.

The fact that you can machine it is really cool. We've done some machining on some of our castings and it can be worked very easily. It is soft enough and workable, yet firm and unbend-able. You can use some basic Dremel tools to work this stuff -no need for a heavy duty machine shop. On the other hand, if you have even a small machine shop, you can use this for creating prototypes of metal castings and machine it to whatever final shape you want. Think of custom auto parts for car restorations, for example. Instead of first creating an expensive mold and going through aluminum or iron/steel casting, you can create a prototype with Alumilite and machine it, send it to the client to check it and see if it meets their requirements.

When this particular version of urethane hardens, it's a yellowish or a bit darker tan color. Other versions of this base product are also available -Alumilite Rigid Urethane kit 28oz White by Alumilite Corp that hardens into pure white; and Alumilite Water Clear Casting Resin Kit 16 oz that hardens water clear. In addition, you can buy small bottles of tint or dye to create castings of just about any color. When the dyes are added to the urethane, it will harden to whatever color you add to it. We've done quite a bit of mixing of colors and had good results making our own colors (only about 6 or 7 basic/primary colors are available for purchase). And a very small drop of dye goes a long way. The dyes can be added to this or the white urethane with the same results, i.e. what type of urethane you use does not affect how the colors turn out.

When casting, it is best to preheat your molds before casting the urethane into them. While the urethane has a low viscosity and flows quite well, it's better to have a preheated mold. It simply flows and fills up better and you end up with a better casting. But either way, Alumilite will fill just about any crack and will perfectly fill your mold. Also, combining and mixing the urethane adds bubbles to which may create flaws in your castings. But this can be eliminated if you have a vacuum chamber and a vacuum pump and if not, you can minimize it by careful mixing and pouring. We've had very few issues with bubbles, which we mostly mitigated with careful mixing. If you have a vacuum chamber, be aware that the pot-life of this urethane is about 90 seconds. So once you pour part A into B you have 90 seconds to mix, de-air and pour. This is probably the only drawback of the urethane -I wish it was a bit longer but so far we haven't had any problems. There are urethanes on the market with longer pot life from other manufacturers, though they have longer cure and de-mold times. If this one does not fit you need you need to do some research and you'll most certainly find one that will.

In summary, this is a great product and if you like making molds and casting models or whatever you'll not only find this product very useful but also have a lot of fun working with it.

I work in a law firm and use this punch on a regular basis. I purchased this item at the end of 2010 and thus far have had no problems.

The instructions say that it will punch 24 sheets of unstapled paper. I find that this is perfectly true. Luckily, it can only fit around 24 pieces in the slot for punch so I've only had the punch jam twice (when I somehow managed to get a few extra sheets in there). While not perfectly silent, it's not the loudest model I have worked with and it is minimally distracting in a work environment. Often, the sound it makes almost seems as if the punch is straining which caused some alarm the first few times I used it. I've since found that while it happens pretty regularly, there has never been any jams or problems associated with the device when this happens.

There is a manual switch at the top if you wish to go from three hole punch to two hole punch. Beware that when you two hole punch, you are NOT aligning the paper with the edge of the device. Instead, there is a line painted partway down the slot to which you would align your paper. While I do not find this to be a huge problem, it does render a few tiny inconsistencies in where the holes a place due to human error.

The holes for either setting are set quite close to the edge of the paper, similar to the location of holes for pre-punched paper. This is not as far in as a manual punch would make them but I find this to be of benefit as that there are more documents I can punch without taking out vital pieces of text.

Also, beware punching stapled documents. This machine is easily powerful enough to go through the staples themselves, which I can imagine will prematurely dull the punches.

Two times I have had the device act as if it was not working. The power switch was on, it was plugged in and I would push the button with no answering motion or sound. While I am still not certain why the problem occurs, I found that moving the punch to a more stable, flat surface would often fix the issue.

Overall, I find it to be a great device. I wish it punched more papers but for the price and the flexibility, I really cannot complain.

My mother-in-law gave me this for Christmas. I have never owned a rotary cutter, and I am fairly new to sewing.

I love this!

I was having a lot of trouble cutting straight with scissors, and it seems to be less of a problem with this. The grip is a little small but comfortable.

I especially like that to access the blade you push and slide the button, not just slide.

I look forward to much use from this product!

The seller was great. I received the wrong color and had no trouble getting them to swap it. The only reason I gave only 4 stars is the mustard yellow I received is a thinner vinyl. It just doesn't seem as good as the wrong color I got the first time. Would have no problem buying from this seller again!

The punch blades split often and clog and the punch disks look worn after a few uses. There should be a tool to clear the blades, I have resorted to a hammer and nail, a unbent paper clip, soaking the blade in hot water!

The only problems I've had with this Singer Simple sewing machine have been with tension on the thread. Once I got that figured out, I found that it sews beautifully. I've had it several years and sewn acres of cloth with it, and it has been very durable. If you've had trouble with the thread, I've explained below how I got it to work for me. I hope it helps you, because this machine is wonderful once you figure the thread out.

My husband bought this sewing machine for me because the old one I loved from the 1970's just couldn't be fixed any more. I was so excited to have a new machine, but right from the first I had trouble with the thread. It was easy enough to thread through, but as soon as I sewed, I would get a huge glob of thread on the bottom of the fabric, and it would get stuck down underneath, and I'd have to cut the whole thing out with scissors. Very frustrating. I struggled with it for months, and narrowed the thread problem down to two main things: the bobbin has to be threaded a specific way, and the tensioner on the upper thread sometimes doesn't catch the thread tight.

If the thread balls up underneath the fabric, there is no tension on the UPPER thread. If the thread tension knob is set correctly and there's still no tension on the tread, then the thread isn't seated right in the tensioner. I figured out how to fix it by accident. As I threaded the machine for the umpteenth time, I realized that I had pulled far too much thread out and wanted to not waste it. I took hold of the upper thread and dragged it back toward the spool. Then I realized that I had pulled that too far, so I pulled it down from the needle end again. The thread started to feel as if it had a little drag instead of freely moving, and then when I sewed, it worked perfectly!!! After all the hours of research and frustration, it worked!

Now when I thread the upper thread, I grasp it at the top and hold that part firmly so that the thread doesn't slip forward as I thread it through. Before I thread the needle, I give the thread a little tug, and if it has tension, I'm all set. If not, I pull it back and forth the way I described above until I feel tension. I've found that if I hold both the top and the bottom thread firmly as I pull back and forth, it seats more quickly, usually only once or twice. Ever since I've done this during the threading process, I haven't had a problem with balled up thread. I.E., once the tensioner is engaged, the thread doesn't slip out of tension while you're sewing. It only matters when you change thread and have to re-thread the machine.

One little note: If you try to pull the thread back and forth after you've threaded the needle, the needle will probably snap. (Yes, I had it happen to me.) So do the back-and-forth thing before you thread the needle.

Also, I found that it's a good idea to test your machine on a scrap piece of fabric right after you thread it to see if it is sewing correctly, instead of just sewing into--and ruining--that beautiful piece of velvet. Once I got used to how it felt when the thread was seated, I stopped testing it out so much. But until then, I found testing was a good way to save myself some frustration. (And sometimes I still do it to make sure everything is right before I sew into something that could be ruined.)

OK, the bobbin: the tensioner for the bobbin is right in the case. It is that little flap of metal that the thread has to pass through. You can adjust it with the screw that is visible on the outside. But that's probably not the issue, especially if you've checked it once. The thing to be sure of is that the bobbin has to be inserted into the case so that the bobbin will turn counter-clockwise when you pull the thread.

To seat the thread in the tensioner, put your thumb onto the bobbin to stop it from turning, and pull the thread through the slit in the metal flap that's screwed to the case. Pull it all the way across so that the thread pops into the rectangular hole. Now give the thread a little tug and check to see that the bobbin turns counter-clockwise. If it does, that's good. Wrap the thread to the left of the rod thingy that should be pointing up, and hold it with your finger against the outside of the case. Now turn the bobbin case around so that the thread should now be on the right side of the rod. Insert the case into the machine so that it's level and square with the hole it is going into. If it gets a little crooked, it can get stuck. Once it is in, gently pull up on the little flap that covers the center of the bobbin case. It will only come up about halfway. When the flap pulls up, you can push the bobbin case forward a little more to seat it,then let the flap close. That center flap slides a small piece of metal over so that the bobbin is held in the machine securely. You can then use the upper thread to pull the lower thread up through the hole, close the door, and replace the shoulder, ect.

I never got a DVD with my machine, so I never got any supplemental instructions except for the manual. But this is what I found works for me, and once I figured it out, I haven't had any problems. Sews like a dream.

As far as the other features, I've tried more than half of the offered stitches, and all of them have worked fine. The button-holer works great if you follow the instructions carefully, and I've made many vests with lots of button holes on the front that looked just beautiful. But I had to practice first, to learn how to do it. Once I had done about 10 or 15 I knew how to do it. Maybe it's not so simple, but this machine works very well.

I tried to use the threader, but just couldn't get the hang of it. I was used to threading by hand with my old machine, so I just continue to do it that way with this one. I've made clothes, quilts, pillows, costumes, curtains and even chenille stuff with this machine, and I just love it. I took off a star because there is some skill to be acquired in threading the machine correctly, and it won't work a darn if the thread isn't seated right. I almost gave it away before I figured it out. But once I got it right, it had been a wonderful machine. Very inexpensive (my husband paid $89 at Walmart several years ago), but a very good value.

I wished someone would have told me how to fix the thread problem earlier--that's why I'm writing this review now. It is a good machine, once you figure it out.

This worked great on my knits, broadcloths, and light denims. I made a t-shirt quilt with it and a child's sleeping bag. Both had high-loft batting that this foot held in place; no slippage on either project. I used it with my Janome DC3018.

Just a heads up, this is NOT for the 5 x 7 hoops. It ordered a machine, my first one and this at the same time. Silly me, I thought that 8 x 8 would fit on a 5 x 7 hoop but it doesn't. I'll eventually use it but I bought an awful lot of this considering my hoop is too big for it. I do plan on buying a smaller hoop at some point.

I have found this machine to be both compact and well made. Mostly metal, there are a few plastic bits, but I don't think these would cause future problems. It's FASTsuper fast. It zips through heavy weight fabrics with ease. I am pleased with the simple, but useful array of stitches (my other machines offer more stitches, but I rarely use them). This machine is stable and does not bounce (I have returned other machines that bounce when used).

I think the light could be vastly improved -it is way too dim. I prefer the LCD light on my other machines.

All and all, I would buy this machine again and recommend to other crafters.

UPDATE: I have now been using this machine for several weeks. I'm very impressed-the speed is fabulous-note, this may be too fast for people new to sewing. Good thing Singer added a finger guard (which gets in the way a bit, but I'm sure I would have otherwise sewn through my fingers by now). Most recently, I have enjoyed how effortlessly it zipps through thick fabrics amazing!
