This is the first Tonic punch that I have purchased and I am very pleased with the ease of punching and the crisp design. I am still practicing getting the design to line up so that the it flows continuously without gaps, but I'm sure that I will use it frequently.

This machine represents the most incredible value-for-money on the market today. It is very, very easy to use, and the manual is exceptionally helpful. It comes with every foot and accessory you could ever possibly need. In fact, there is nothing more you can buy for it. Compare that to the other sewing machine manufacturers, which give you only the most basic feet and then you must purchase everything else separately. If you have been hankering for the convenience of fully computerized sewing, automatic needle threading, push-button sewing, and lots of fun stitches, don't hesitate. I highly recommend this machine. I've owned very expensive machines from all the top manufacturers, and would not recommend it if the stitches were not beautiful or if it were loud or junky. This was given to me as a gift (I'm ashamed to say I would probably have walked right past it because of its low price) and I love it so much, I have gone on to buy the Brother serger here on Amazon, and also a $999.00 Brother Innovis, which is another tremendous bargain. I was really pleased to see that even the more expensive machine uses the same bobbins and feet as this one, and this has many of the same features. This $200 machine comes iwth virtually all the same attachments as the $1000 one.

This is the machine that some of the larger sewing and quilting expos are using in their workshops now because they are so lightweight, easy to learn, and reliable. High end Berninas and Vikings are just too complicated for people to sit down and learn at in a classroom setting, and they are way too expensive. This machine is the Featherweight of the 21st century, with tons of stitches and fun built in. Go for it!!!

I have the Cricket Create and the items come out to small to do anything. The ad should have said to only use with Cricket Expression. I was so looking forward to making boxes now I just have a cartridge that I can't use. I think it would be fun with the larger Cricket. So if anyone has the larger Cricket it is a great product.

It's rare for someone to go against the scrapbooking grain so I'm hopeful you'll read this review with an open mind.

When my previous trimmer cut one too many crooked lines, I bit the bullet and started the search for a new one. After extensive research, I decided to go ahead and buy the Making Memories trimmer. I gasped at the price, but pulled out my discount coupon and sorta justified it. I haven't worked in 13 months, so this was a major decision for me!

Great trimmer, I thought, when I first pulled it out of the box. Looks gorgeous, sturdy ... which it must be considering its really heavy weight. (This is not a trimmer for those with comprised strength in their hands/wrists. Not only is it very heavy, the ruler they want you to use to hold paper in place -kind of stupid since it's only a sheet at a time -is SUPER strong, VERY difficult to pry off.) So I was a bit surprised to find it could only cut up to cardstock, and only one or two sheets at a time. But the other trimmers were like that, right? And this one's blade self-sharpens, so I'd never, ever need to worry about the blade.

So I put it to work, making Christmas surprise boxes for my year's cards. It was incredibly difficult at first to pull the blade back and forth ... but I figured it was breaking in or something, and eventually it did ease up. What did NOT ease up was the horrible squealing noise! It's what others have described, and it truly is ear-piercing, fingers-on-the-chalkboard bad. I saw some posts that talked about a couple of drops of sewing machine oil, but this is a paper cutter!!

OK. Holidays pass, it's busy, have a couple of birthdays and use the trimmer pretty sparsely till about a week and a half ago. Pulled it out and brought it to a class at a local scrapbook store. Used it, and it actually jaggedy-edge ripped my paper. I tried blowing out the bits of paper dust I could see inside the groove, but no improvement. So I called Making Memories the next business day.

The woman who answered was pleasant, but very, very rushed. She threw out a couple of answers to my questions but obviously was in a hurry to move on. Turns out, my blade was out of alignment and she'd e-mail me an instruction sheet to realign it. That horrible noise? It's the arm where the blade slides along ... just a couple of drops of oil, she said. I couldn't even get a "Thank you" out before the phone was hung up. The e-mail arrived seconds later.

Wow, I thought. Kinda scary that this is such a big problem they have an insta-e-mail response. So I followed the instructions and it turned out that yes, indeed, my blade was out of alignment. It's not suppose to be in the groove where all the paper dust has been trapped. It's suppose to be OUTSIDE the edge. (OK. WHY is there a groove there in the first place? It's not like something slides along there. Design flaw for sure.)

SO I moved it back into place and pulled the blade back and forth a few times to resharpen it, as instructed. WOW! Not only was the horrible squealing noise gone, the blade zipped along the track like butter ... just like all the reviews said!! Only ... my paper was not being evenly cut. Still. I tred a few more times, and no luck. Decided to call MM back.

Go to the Web site and request a replacement product, I was told. I did, and then was told I needed to furnish a receipt. Well, after I'd had the trimmer for a few weeks, I recycled the receipt and the box. With so many glowing reviews, why would I need to keep it? After much back and forth, I got absolutely nowhere. And guess what? They don't bother to sell the blade or blade compartment by itself. So now I have a piece of landfill-er.

I don't understand, 1. WHY isn't there a warranty card to return? 2. WHY are there NO instructions to indicate such a problem exists? Apparently if people try to cut inappropriate amounts of paper, it's going to throw the blade out of alignment. I never did this, and in fact am certain that my blade was out of alignment the entire time I had the trimmer. How would I have known? But it's a big enough problem they have a ready-to-send e-mail.

I went around and around and around, pointing out how much money has been invested in this company by the scrapping community, and every other sentence in response was, "I'm really so very sorry."

Well, I'm really so very sorry I ever bought this product, and I sincerely hope that after reading my story you will reconsider your purchase. This was a major thing for me, and now I feel like I was selfish in taking money from my family to buy something for myself. I was hopeful I could sell some crafts this summer to bring in a little bit of money, but I won't have a trimmer to help in this.

I did a side-by-side comparison of these pouches against some Scotch 3mil pouches on both Scotch and Fellows branded laminating machines. These Fellowes pouches did impress me as being a little better quality than the Scotch pouches and the end result was slightly thicker and a tiny bit more firm feeling to me. This was true for both of the machines I tested. I've used heavy card stock in these pouches with no issues. The only time I see any waviness is in a half empty pouch. (The instructions do warn you not to run half empty pouches through the machine.) I experienced no color or visibility distortion. I also didn't have any issues with air bubbles as the 2 sides of each pouch are attracted to each other statically, which helps keep excess air out.

Since there was no photo, I was nervous about ordering this product even though my machine was listed on the compatible models above. I decided that I would upload photos when it arrived to help others make their buying decision. I also took a closeup of the end that goes into your machine, so you can judge if this is the correct cord for your machine. The product says singer and has the foot pedal and power cord that goes into the wall. At this price, I assumed this would be a no brand replacement part. So I was very pleased. I was quoted $56 for a singer replacement part at my local sewing store, so this was a great deal! Shipping took about 10 days, but was packaged well. I wish it had come sooner, but the shipping was free, so I can't complain.

I was tired of dragging out the big paper cutter every time I was preparing an insert for the church bulletin or distributing items of interest at the local quilters guild. This does a good job and it's so small I can tuck it away where I can get to it easily. The first time I used it I found that it didn't cut through serveral pieces of paper but once I figured out that I simply needed to apply more pressure it was just fine.

For $24 I expected a lot more then what I received. I expected the ditch quilting guide to be what it said a guide. Having watched the You Tube demo thought it might improve my in-the-ditch quilting. However,I found that I still had to focus very much where the needle was going rather then where "guide" was. Stitching didn't stay straight because of the guide! Live and learn!!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program These self-sealing laminating sheets are easy-to-use but the finished product is of so-so quality. I tried these sheets to preserve travel momentos (ticket stubs, business cards) in a single sheet, and also for photographs.

The sheets are easy-peel (there's a removable strip at the top, so no hunting for a corner to peel), but it's harder when you apply the second sheet (the back). Lining up the two sheets is difficult, and the sheets easily stick to each other. At this point, it's possible to peel them back apart, but the process leaves the back sheet with some ridges/folds, and fingerprints start to accumulate in the adhesive as you try to get things positioned just so.

Once you carefully apply the back sheet, pressing firmly, you'll notice the plastic doesn't appear entirely clear. This is because tiny pockets of air remain, even after pressing firmly while sealing. Despite the glossy finish, this means the product isn't suitable for laminating a photograph (even though a laminated photograph is what's pictured on the packaging I received). Using an edge like your fingernail and rubbing firmly on the surface is enough to smooth a patch so it looks clear as was intended, but it's too much work to apply that technique to an entire 9x12 sheet. Larger air bubbles can't be removed once the sheets are sealed together.

A pair of sheets is reasonably rigid, but isn't entirely firm like traditional lamination would be.

This product seems unsuitable for photos, or things that are intended to be scanned or photographed later (where clarity matters), but seems a decent way to protect recipes or odds-and-ends like my ticket stubs. For some of those things, like recipes, that are likely coming from a printer anyway, it's simpler to print them on a glossy heavy paper to begin with, rather than laminating them later.

These sheets don't require any other tools, but aren't nearly as useful (or nice to look at) as traditional heat-sealed lamination. Recommended for limited purposes only.

I got this machine from Sears after losing my old Singer. Originally, I was very skeptic about getting a computerized machine but when it came down to the wire, I needed a machine ASAP and I wanted a quality one.

All I can say is, if you read the manual, you will do just fine. Many reviews on sewing machines complain about hard or confusing threading, but I'm telling you now, threading this machine is super easy!

Being computerized, there are many, many options to choose from! READ THE MANUAL. It explains everything you can think of and even gives you charts of what needles to use with what fabric, what stitches should be in length and width, what each stick is best used for, etc. This manual is not just instructions for the machine, it is the best reference guide I've ever had.

As far as the machine, It handles like a dream. It is quiet and very efficient. The only thing I don't like is the spool holder being made of plastic, but all of them are these days. The smooth guides of the machine does a good job as long as you have plenty of fabric and no pulling. As of right now, I have used the machine on lining and cotton/Sateen. It does a great job on both in multiple layers and just as one layer.

I think the best part of the machine is that you can change some general setting. FIrst, the machine is preprogramed to put the needle down when you lift your foot of the break, which means you have to push a button to get it to lift up out of the fabric. Following the manual, this can be changed and reprogramed easily to make the needle lift up automatically when you're done. It also starts the needle out on a straight stitch to the left, but this can also be changed to make it start out in the center at a straight stitch.

This machine was constructed for someone who likes to use the needle to the left. Which is obnoxious for me, but not even close to a deal breaker. The only thing is that the measurements on the machine that show the distance from the needle, used for 5/8 main seams, are from the left needle position. Which means if you like the needle center, you need to know what is 5/8 away since it is not on the table.

The accessories that this machine comes with are amazing. It comes with every foot you may need as well as some bobbins and a variety of needles.

I do recommend this machine to anyone, experienced or not because it is a great easy to use but powerful machine. If you get it at Sears, you can even get a 2 year "fix-it" warranty for about $50. Sears has a 90 day return policy which is handy if this machine isn't for you. The parts warranty from Brother lasts 25 years. Last, read the manual. The whole thing. It is easy and filled with pictures more than anything else. Believe me, you will not regret knowing what you're doing rather than guessing and getting frustrated. Good luck on your sewing!

Brother PE-700II Embroidery Machine / B0013J8F9U

In this video review of the Brother Embroidery Machine PE-700II, I want to show you just a few of the basic things you can do with this machine, right out of the box. This is my first embroidery machine, though I've been sewing for a few years now on a Brother XL2600I, and the fact that I'm able to showcase the basics of this machine when I only received it in the mail yesterday is a testament to how easy this machine is to use. In this video review, I'm going to briefly show how to load a bobbin, how to load the material, how to transfer a pattern from a computer to the embroidery machine, and how to load and change the color spool. I'll also show some projects I finished yesterday, and talk about some potential pitfalls to avoid. (I'd like to show more, but the video time limit is fairly short!)

The Brother PE-700II is a single-use embroidery machine, NOT a dual-use embroidery/sewing machine. The reason I bought a single-use embroidery machine is because it makes sense to me to invest in a separate machine just for sewing, and that way your expensive embroidery machine sustains less wear and tear and lives longer. I've posted a picture of the PE-700II and all the included paperwork and accessories out of the box. The paperwork includes a detailed manual in English, the same manual in Spanish, a "pictures-only" manual for quick reference, and a manual for the USB functionality of the machine. The manuals are very detailed and extremely helpful if you'd like to see them for yourself, I think they are currently available on the Brother website. The standard accessories are included white thread, empty bobbins, seam ripper, scissors, maintenance parts, a 5x7 inch embroidery hoop and guide, and a nifty plastic machine cover.

For the video, I've selected a quick and simple two-color pattern that I downloaded for free online so that I could show off the USB functionality of this machine. The machine itself comes with quite a few pre-programmed patterns, including the English alphabet in 6 different fonts, but if you're anything like me, you're far more interested in the ability to download millions of free patterns online. Indeed, the selling point for the PE-700II for me was the standardized USB connectivity. I was wary of machines that require special card readers and special programs in order to work I don't like buying peripherals (what if they break? what if I can't buy a replacement?) and I hate learning new software. The PE-700II, on the other hand, has a standard USB interface which means that you treat the machine as a removable device, as though it were a really big USB thumb drive. The drag-and-drop ability means that I don't have to learn a new software in order to use my machine and, best of all, the USB connectivity is operating system independent meaning that the PE-700II talks equally well to my Windows XP desktop and my Windows Vista laptop. You can save the patterns from the computer to the machine's internal memory, or you can just hook up a laptop next to the machine, use the pattern, and then delete it from the machine memory right then and there. I cannot rave enough about this feature I've already downloaded and tested dozens of online free patterns and everything has worked perfectly. The one thing to be aware of, as I note in the video, is that the machine isn't terribly good at sensing which colors are meant to be loaded. You just have to ignore the color prompting and watch the pattern about to be embroidered and feed in that color directly or follow the numbered instructions that come with the online patterns. You can reprogram the pattern, once it's stored in machine memory, to have the correct colors, but I never felt it was worth the trouble. (UPDATE: I've since loaded these free patterns into a separate program in order to print 'actual sized' templates of the patterns, and the same "wrong" colors are loaded into the program, leading me to believe that this isn't a flaw in this embroidery machine, but rather in the source program. Interestingly, the "non-free" patterns tend to have correct color charts, so I suspect that the free ones just weren't polished fully before release. Again, just pay attention to the pattern on the LCD screen and you should be just fine.) A quick mention of formats this machine accepts .pes and .dst formats, which I've already found an abundance of. (UPDATE: And there are several free conversion programs out there that I've found that will convert patterns to .pes and .dst format.)

Loading the Bobbin: If you've used a Brother machine before, this is easy as pie, but even if not, it's a quick learning curve. For embroidery, I just use the white thread on the bobbin for everything. I didn't have video time to show how to wind the bobbin, but it's pretty easy to follow the user manual for this, and there's also cheap bobbin winding machines like this one SideWinder Portable Bobbin Winder if you want to be really spoiled rotten. Be certain to wind the bobbin carefully as in sewing, a tangled bobbin will cause your pattern to muck up and will bring the bobbin color on top of the pattern by accident.

Loading the Material: The machine comes with a 5x7 hoop, but it also accommodates the other Brother embroidery hoop sizes. Ideally, you want to use the smallest hoop that will work with your pattern, so as to avoid wasting material and stabilizer, but in the video I use the included hoop. The machine doesn't come with any stabilizer, so be sure to have some on hand so that you can get started as soon as your package arrives. You can buy stabilizer anywhere you buy fabric, and it's usually about half as expensive as the cheaper fabrics. The stabilizer does what it sounds it provides stability for the fabric whilst your machine is rapidly punching hundreds of holes into it. In the video, I'm using a medium weight stabilizer.

Loading the Hoop: I can't rave enough about how easy it is to use the embroidery hoop. I've been cross stitching for years, and opening and loading the hoop feels like second nature. Just unscrew until loose, drop the fabric into place, pop the inner hoop in, tug the fabric taut, and screw to tighten. The 'snap in place' feature for inserting the hoop into place on the machine guide deserves a quick mention although the hoop DOES snap-in-place, the snap action is subtle, so don't go crazy trying to force a loud crack from the machine because you won't get one. Basically, the "snap" is a half-feeling, half-sound that you half-sense. And while that may sound confusing and intimidating, I can assure you that I was completely comfortable with the process after my first three or four loads.

Loading the Spool: Loading the spool is so incredibly easy with the automatic threading feature. If you've ever loaded a sewing machine before, you will have no trouble with this; if you haven't, I'm guessing you'll have it down perfectly in less than five minutes. I'm going to miss the auto-threading when I go back to regular sewing on my other Brother machine.

Pausing the Pattern: Once the pattern starts, you can pause the process at any time for any reason. Need to trim the thread tail because it's sticking up out of the pattern instead of sticking out the back? Press the Start/Stop button to pause the program and trim away. Need to check the bobbin because you think it's getting low? Pause the program, lift the foot lever, cut the current thread, pull out the hoop, and check the bobbin level. You can replace the bobbin, if necessary, then pop the hoop back into place, lower the foot, and continue and the machine won't miss a single beat.

I cannot rave enough about this machine. It's easy to learn, easy to use, it practically does everything except wipe my nose for me, it has cheerfully used every downloaded pattern and every type of thread I've fed into it, and the LCD screen is actually surprisingly easy to navigate, considering the natural limitations of a computer stuffed into an embroidery machine. The ONLY issues I have had with it so far was one time when the white bobbin thread leaked through the pattern onto the top (I had wound the bobbin too sloppily and the bobbin thread was tangled) and another time when I ran out of bobbin thread and wasn't paying attention in time to switch out the bobbin and the resulting pattern was incomplete and you'll notice that both of those "problems" were human error on my part. I hope my video and pictures will be useful to others and I had a very fun time putting them together.

UPDATE (08/23/09): Still as happy as can be with my embroidery machine. I've gone back through the user manual more thoroughly this time and found that not only can it automatically stop when the bobbin or spool is running low, it's also very easy to go to a specific portion of a pattern you can even move the pattern stitch-by-stitch until you get to *exactly* where you want to start, or re-start as the case may be.

Another neat thing I've learned is that the little boxes in the upper left hand corner of the machine represent the three Brother hoop sizes most commonly used with this machine and when a box is "grayed out", that indicates the pattern is too big for that hoop size. Very neat! I definitely recommend picking up the other, smaller hoop size (Brother SA443 Medium Embroidery Hoop 100mm x 100mm) for embroidery monograms and names on clothing and sheets the smaller hoop is much more manageable, in my opinion.
